Winning With Character

                     OUR PROGRAM

Winning With Character is a non-profit organization providing character, ethics, and leadership training to high school and college athletic programs.

The purpose of our program is to improve moral reasoning and social values among male and female students athletes.
Our four year program is designed to:

  • challenge athletes to reach their full potential in the classroom,
    on the field, and in society;
  • provide understanding, reasoning, and application or moral and
    ethical principles; and
  • change students values and thinking (year 1), and behavior (years 2-4).

Originally created for the University of Georgia football players, and after three years of measured success, the program is being implemented across men’s and women’s sports at UGA, and other high schools and colleges around the country.

Our program operates based on financial support provided by license fees by our member schools, and gifts and contributions from foundations, corporations, and individual donors.

TESTIMONIALS

Russell Schneider of Fox Creek High School, South Carolina

April 21, 2010

I just wanted to fill you in on what has been going on with our Character Ed. Classes. We have now done it school wide instead of just athletes. This year our kids wanted to start doing community projects on their own. That’s what was amazing. First our girls raised over $3000.00 for Breast Cancer Awareness week. Second the boys didn’t want to be outdone and raised over $1000.00 selling relief for Haiti t-shirts. They are now working together on Relay For Life together. My point is that we went from our student body not wanting to do the Character Ed. to now wanting to do things for others. We are so proud of our student’s willingness to give. We are excited about what has going on!

Servant Sport Leadership: A continuing education course

presented through the University of Idaho Center for ETHICS*

Endorsed by Winning With Character and the American Football Coaches Association

Sport Servant Leadership

The Servant Sport Leadership Program has been developed by the Winning With Character Foundation and the University of Idaho Center for ETHICS* to help coaches and teams develop a sense of unity built upon a foundation of character.  The ground work of this program lies in effective leadership approaches modeled by coaches and key players.

The Sport Servant Leadership Program will help you by:

· Defining Servant Leadership and distinguishing it from the more traditional styles of coaching

· Offering practical examples of Servant Leadership characteristics and describing how they may be applied in competitive football

· Offering insight into the relationship between Servant Leader coaching and athlete motivation and performance

· Explaining how and your staff can participate in the Servant Leadership program with success

The purpose of this course:

Is to create an environment to aid you in your quest to become a servant leader.  What are the traits, the gifts, and the mission of individuals who are servant leaders?  What makes an individual worthy of being called a servant leader? The answer lies in you!

The objectives of this course are:

1. To provide a rationale for the development  of a servant leadership philosophy as a coach in football.

2. To inspire and challenge thinking that is directed toward servant leadership coaching.

3. To become knowledgeable in literature and language of servant

leadership.

4. To assess one’s personal qualities in the quest for servant leaders.
